Protect Your Oral Health And Save Money

Save the Foundation of Your Smile

Periodontal disease affects the foundation of your smile and can lead to many serious oral health issues. Gum disease treatment can restore the health of your gums to prevent tooth loss and other consequences.

A Better-Looking Smile

In addition to restoring your oral health, periodontal treatment can address redness, bleeding, swelling, and gum recession, helping your smile to look healthier and more attractive.

Save Money

The earlier you get professional treatment, the more affordable and conservative your treatment options will be. If you wait, you will likely require more costly restorative treatments.

Will Gum Disease Improve on Its Own?

No. If you are experiencing symptoms of gum disease, you need to reach out to Dr. Sheldon Lindenfeld. A periodontist can accurately diagnose your level of gum disease to determine the most appropriate treatment.

If plaque and tartar buildup has occurred below the gum line, scaling and root planing may be sufficient to resolve gum disease. However, gum recession and other more serious issues will require more extensive care.

Do I need gum disease treatment?

Common Symptoms of Gum Disease

Red, Swollen, or Bleeding Gums

When bacteria affects the gum tissue, it can cause inflammation. Redness, swelling, and bleeding are common signs of gum disease.

Bad Breath

Chronic bad breath (halitosis) is one of the most common signs of gum disease. Bad breath can be very embarrassing, affect your relationships, and lower your self-confidence.

Gum Recession

In advanced stages of gum disease, the gums begin to pull away from the teeth. If you notice that your teeth look longer than before, it is time to speak to a periodontist.

How are plaque and tartar removed from below the gumline?

The Recommended Treatment Will Depend on Your Diagnosis

Dr. Lindenfeld will determine which treatment you should undergo based on your diagnosis. In most cases, here is what you can expect from start to finish:

Diagnosis

Dr. Lindenfeld will assess the depth of your gum pockets and determine whether you are in the early, intermediate, or advanced stages of gum disease.

Sedation

If you are nervous about treatment, our office can provide nitrous oxide, a fast-acting sedative that will help you relax during your procedure.

Treatment

For mild to moderate gum disease, scaling and root planing may be sufficient. In more serious cases, periodontal surgery may be necessary.

Recovery

Patients who receive scaling and root planing generally only have a few days of sensitivity, while patients who undergo periodontal surgery such as gum grafting may need a week or more of reduced physical activity.

Follow-Up Procedure

For your comfort, some treatments may be staged over the course of two or more appointments.

Results

Once you have completed your recovery, you can expect healthier gums. You can maintain your results by practicing good oral hygiene and attending six-month checkups.

Our Services

Scaling and Root Planing

Scaling and root planing are recommended when plaque and tartar have collected below the gumline. During the procedure, Dr. Lindenfeld will remove plaque and tartar using a scaler, then smooth out the root surfaces to prevent future buildup.

Pocket Depth Reduction

Gum disease can cause pockets to form as tissue pulls away from the teeth, leaving space for bacteria to become trapped. By removing bacteria and treating the affected tissue, we can reduce periodontal pockets.

Ridge Augmentation

If you have suffered bone recession as a result of gum disease or other issues, Dr. Lindenfeld can perform a ridge augmentation procedure to replace lost tissue. This procedure can restore candidacy for dental implants.

Socket Grafting

If you lose a permanent tooth due to gum disease or another condition, Dr. Lindenfeld can fill the socket with a graft to create a stable and healthy foundation for a dental implant.

Soft Tissue Grafting

If you have exposed tooth roots as a result of gum recession, Dr. Lindenfeld may perform soft tissue grafting. Using donor tissue from another location within the oral cavity, he can replace recessed tissue.

Can I afford treatment?

Asset 2

Dr. Lindenfeld is an honest care provider who will never recommend a treatment that you do not absolutely need. Most gum disease treatments qualify for at least partial insurance coverage.

Dr. Lindenfeld and his team believe that cost should not stand in the way of receiving the periodontal treatment you need. We accept many forms of payment in order to help make outstanding care accessible to you:

How can I avoid gum disease in the future?

Protecting Your Smile for Years to Come

Your treatment does not end when you leave our office. In order to maintain the results of your treatment and prevent the need for further treatment, we recommend that you:

  • Floss at least once per day, ideally before bed
  • Brush your teeth twice per day
  • Do not smoke, since the habit has been linked to gum disease
  • Visit your dentist every six months, or more often if you are prone to gum disease

"Dr. Lindenfeld is the best."

Dr. Sheldon Lindenfeld is a fantastic dentist. He specializes in gum treatments, and has helped me to maintain healthy gums despite a medication that I take which creates problems. He is always so cheerful that it is a pleasure to come to his office. I wrote this review several months ago.  All I can do now, is reaffirm what I wrote. Dr. Lindenfeld is the best.
